AMVETS Post 44 convened at the Pole Barn at Winthrop to stage what was billed as "Tampa Bay's Largest 9/11 Remembrance and Patriot Day Event." Held at the Pole Barn at Winthrop, the event drew hundreds of enthusiasts throughout the day at various locations, many of them riding motorcyles to get there. ALong with AMVETS Post 44, the day's events were hosted by Thunder Rolls, an informal community of interest promoting civic awareness, and the Post 9/11 Foundation.
The aim: "To foster an area-wide remembrance of the terrorist attacks in 2001 and the continued awareness of the sacrifice of citizens, first responders and the military."
"The goal is to inspire and remind the community of the patriotism and pride that brought the nation together after the terrorist attacks and show community support for our first responders, the heroic men and women who serve to protect us every day," notes the organizers in promotional materials.
Proceeds of the day's events were to benefit James A. Haley Veterans Hospital's recreational services, the Special Ops Warrior Foundation, the Post 9/11 Foundation, and the VA Gold Shield Foundation.

- 8:00 am – Thunder Rolls and Post 9-11 Foundation commemorative US flag presentation to the City of Palmetto at the historical downtown park.
- 10:45 am – Thunder Rolls and Post 9-11 Foundation commemorative US flag motorcycle escort departs from The Ride Factory in Ybor City
- 11:00 am – AMVETS 3rd Annual Remembrance Ride departs from four starting locations all destined for the Winthrop Pole Barn on Bloomingdale Ave in Riverview. Starting locations are JA Haley VA Hospital, Barney’s Motorcycles on Gandy Blvd , Peggy’s Corral on US 41 Palmetto and Lakeland Harley Davidson.
- 11:45 am – Thunder Rolls Post 9-11 Foundation commemorative US flag escort rides up Bayshore Blvd with salute from the Bayshore Patriots
- 12:00 pm – Thunder Rolls and Post 9-11 Foundation commemorative US flag presentation to the City of Tampa Mayor and Fire Chief at the Boat Show, Tampa Convention Center
- 12:00 pm to 8 pm – AMVETS Patriot Day Celebration at Winthrop Pole Barn, Bloomingdale Ave , Riverview. Festivities include live music, vendors, BBQ, family fun zone and door prizes. Vehicle and equipment displays by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue / EMS , Manatee County Search and Rescue, Hillsborough County Sheriff, US Marine Corps Reserve. Military and First Responders admitted free.
