Show Dates and Times: March 26, 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. Also, March 28 at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $10 General Admission; $6 for senior citizens and Spoto students.
With a cast of 26, and a five-member orchestra, the Spoto High School Theatre Department presents Into The Woods, Marcn 26-28, 2009, in the school's auditorium.
Theatre teacher Lindsay M. Warfield, above left, plays the role of the Witch. Pictured also, from left, are Haley Beutler (Cinderalla), Jack (Christopher Ackerson), and Taylor Seibert (Little Red Riding Hood). Warfield is a member of the charter staff that opened Spoto High three years ago.
"We wanted to do a [Stephen] Sondheim play and I thought it would be challenging for the kids," Warfield said about her decision to stage Into the Woods. Inspired by Bruno Bettelheim's 1976 book, The Uses of Enchantment, the musical intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales and follows them further to explore the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests
"There's a lot of strong characters," which makes for "a strong ensemble cast," said Warfield, a graduate of Western Michigan University, who knew in high school that she wanted to teach theater. "I directed plays in my backyard when I was a kid," she added. "It just comes naturally."
