The awards were given Sept. 14, 2008 at Center Place, where the Third Annual Brush Strokes awards also were given. Brush Strokes is sponsored by the Brandon News and Tampa Tribune.

Debra Jo Radke, the juror for Artworks 2008, talks about the "one word" she would use to describe the works in this year's ninth annual show. "Viewpoint," she said. The opportunity, using "mundane, every day subject matter," to allow the viewer, through the artist's work, to "peak into an intimate space." As Radke added: "The intimacy of the viewpoint is what really struck me."

Debra Jo Radke, this year's Brush Strokes "Single Artist Contributor of the Year" award recipient. Radhke also was the juror for the Brandon League of Fine Arts show, Artworks 2008.

Vernon Blackadar received honorable mention for his woodworking at Artworks 2008. He also received the Brush Strokes "Lifetime Achievement" award.

Meletha Everett gives the Brush Strokes "Lifetime Achievement" award to woodworker Vernon Blackadar.

Carol Frye placed third in Artworks 2008.

"How special it is to have the judge of a show come speak to you," said Virginia Rhan-Halloway, this year's first-place winner at the Brandon League of Fine Arts juried competition, Artworks 2008. Juror Debra Jo Radke spoke to the group before the formal introduction of winners.
