The Brandon Community Plan initiative is underway and residents attending public meetings have asked for a bus tour of the area in question. That tour was held June 3, 2008 and was arranged by the Hillsborough County Planning and Growth Management Department. Some participants posed for a closing shot at the conclusion of the tour, in front of the HART bus provided for the occasion.

Lois Kershner has lived in Brandon for more than 30 years. Brandon, she said, is "energetic." She added: "It's just a great community for people of all interests to find something that will appeal to them." She added: "This is definitely not a laid-back community. It's not New York City but there's a lot happening."

William Lamboy of the Hillsborough County Planning and Growth Management Department serves as tour guide on the June 3, 2008 Brandon Bus Tour. The tour was arranged in response to a suggestion made at a public meeting held in furtherance of the county's Brandon Community Plan initiative.

Jason Dunham said he was participating in the Brandon Bus Tour "as a resident, architect and town planner." One of Brandon's biggest problems, he said, is suburban sprawl and the competing interest of preserving the rural feel and landscape. "Inside of the major (roadway) arterials there is no connectivity," Dunham said. "That congestion is competing with the rural feel of Brandon. People want to preserve the rural feel. But doing that, a lot of times, you're keeping the disconnectivity."

"Brandon's grown since I moved here in 1953," said former Honorary Mayor of Brandon Jean Barfield. "But I still think it's a wonderful place to live and raise a family." Added Eldridge: "I like it because it's close to major areas but it still has that small-town community feeling."

Gene Will for 45 years has lived in Brandon, "a suburban community that's overgrown and too crowded because of traffic." He laments the combination of new developments with inadequate roads. "In the whole Brandon community from Martin Luther King Boulevard to Bloomingdale Avenue there's only four East-West roads," Will said. The other two are State Road 60 and Lumsden Road.
