Briant said it was an honor to be selected for the Brandon High School Alumni Association's Hall Of Fame, which houses the names of "a lot of people I know well and have a great deal of respect for."
One name that stands out if Patricia M. "Pat" Fussell. "They ought to name a wing of the school for her," Briant said. "She was maroon through and through and the things she did for the school, she was totally, totally dedicated."
Fussell was in charge, too, of the school's colorguard dancerettes, known simply as "The Squad." Briant's daughter Christy Briant was a member of the squad. Pictured at right, she graduated from Brandon in 1996. Also with Briant is his wife and granddaughter, Michelle Vance, left, and daughter, Debbie Vance, who graduated from Brandon in 1980. Michelle teaches at Brooker Elementary and graduated from Bloomingdale High in 2003.
One of the teachers Briant remembers well, who also joined the 2009 class of indcutees, is former agricultural education teacher Nat Stormes. "Nat's a character," Briant said. "He's a pillar of the school. He was the department head. He's kind of like Pat Fussell, he's an institution here."
