Cards For Troops In Its Second Year Draws Hundreds Of Card-Stampers To Campo YMCA
(October 24, 2009)
Jake Leech is a student in the International Baccalaureate program at the newly opened Strawberry Crest High School in Plant City, Fla. His dad is a captain in the Navy. He was at the Campo Y to earn some community hours. His mom, Miriam, joined him. “It’s a wonderful thing,” she said about the Cards for Troops event. “I like the idea that it’s not just sending Christmas cards to troops. This gives them an opportunity to send Christmas cards home to their loved ones.” As for Jake, he said, “My dad’s in the military and I want to help out the military as much as I can.” Jake’s goal is to join the Navy. As for now, he finds his new year at Strawberry Crest “kind of exciting.” As he put it: “Everything’s brand new and there isn’t anything broken down in the science lab.”
