Jeri Fontana, Stampin' Up! demonstrator, left, and Jennifer Kovell, at the Second Annual Cards for the Troops event, held this year at the Campo Family YMCA. "Last year our goal was to stamp 1,500 cards for troops," Fontana said. "We ended up with 2,069. This year we were prepared to stamp 3,000 cards, but we're already prepping for about another 500."
"The hand-stamped cards will be sent to deployed service members so they can send a Christmas card home this season," reads the flyer for the event.
"It's been awesome," Fontana said about the October event, launched in 2008. "It's awesome for the troops. I've gotten certificates of appreciation and letters from commanders. They're totally amazed when they receive these boxes full of Christmas cards." (

Kovell noted that one man at the 2009 event, Michael Linger, with the 91st Air Refueling Squadron, left the event with 250 cards he planned to take with him on his impending deployment.
