Members of the Riverview High School chorus going to New York in June 2010 take a break from rehearsing to pose with choral director Liz Stewart, left in front, and parent Cari Gifford, whose son, Jacob, is a chorus member.
The students have been selected, via tape audition, to participate in the one- night-only concert being staged by internationally renowned composer Eric Whitacre at Carenegie Hall in New York City on June 15. The Riverview chorus will be part of the New York premier of Whitacre's opera Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings.
"It's a big honor that Mr. Whitacre thinks my students are up for doing this," Stewart said. "He's constantly workshopping the concert and sending us music. And this music is hard! So it's a challenge. It's a huge challenge. And I think it's good for my kids. It's going to be a concert event like they've never done before and an experience they'll never forget."
