Durant, Newsome and Plant City High Schools Stage Pippin On Tomlin Middle School's Grand Stage
SHOW DATES: November 20-23 and December 11-14. Thursday, Friday and Saturday night shows are at 7 p.m. Sunday shows are at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $10 General Admission, $8 Orchestra (first eight rows) and $7 Balcony. Tomlin Middle School is at 501 North Woodrow Wilson Street in Plant City, Fla., 33563. State judges will be attending the Dec. 12 show. Should Pippin be well received, it will be staged at the Tampa Bay Perforoming Arts Center in May. The cast and crew of Pippin asks that the theater be full on Dec. 12, 2008.
Durant High School student Christopher Tousignant stars in the title role in the November 2008 production of Pippin. The show, at the 1,400-seat Tomlin Middle School theater in Plant City, Fla., is staged by three high schools: Durant, Newsome and Plant. More than 130 people have been involved in the show, including a cast of about 55 performers. Tomlin was chosen for its grand theater, known in contemporary times as a setting for grand pageants, not far from the famous Strawbery Festival fairgrounds. School officials involved in the production said they wanted to help the Tomlin stage return as a showcase for grand theater as well. Michael Wood, of Michael Wood Lighting and Design, is helping in that regard. The Durant graduate is studying technical theater at the University of South Florida and runs his production company out of the Barn Theatre at Winthrop in Riverview, in the Greater Brandon area of the East End of Hillsborough County.
