Trish Charo, pictured with her children, Julian, left, and Malayna, said she gave herself a goal: lose 60 pounds in one year. Three weeks shy of that year, Charo said she is happy to report goal accomplished. "The Y saved my life," she said. She credited her success to "exercise, diet and daycare for the kids."

"I travel across the state to do things like these events," said Dan Crow, left, with Olivia Lord, at the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce Health Fair 2009 at the Campo Family YMCA. Crow is community liaison with the Visiting Nurse Association of Florida . "We deliver free health care to people who don't have insurance," including indigents and migrant workers.

Registered Nurse Kathleen Glover shows the tool she uses to check for the amount of oxygen in a person's blood. To check for blood, a patient simply inserts his or her finger.

Diane Wood, branch manager for Southwest Florida, for the Visiting Nurse Association of Florida , inside the mobile clinic that provides free health care and checks for people who don't have health insurance.

"Kids' school physicals are a big thing this year," Wood said. "With the economy the way it is, parents are going to be hard-pressed to get physicals for their kids. We will gladly do it for free."

The mobile clinic also tends to the needs of people who don't have health insurance, including indigents and migrant workers. "This is how we give back to the community," Wood said. "I'm so proud of this area because it's not very often you can do something for people and not charge. I feel so lucky to be able to [bring the mobile health clinic] to this health fair and to all health fairs [that will have us]."

"Quite a few of us [Greater Brandon residents] have come through," Garbin said. "You can tell by the parking lot. Could you find a space to park?"

The women represented the Image1 Network, which is comprised of the Tower Diagnostic Center of Brandon (613 Oakfield Drive), Total Imaging Parsons (427 S. Parsons Avenue, Suite 110), Total Imaging Robertson (737 W. Brandon Blvd.) and Total Imaging Sun City (3862 Sun City Center Blvd.). Services among the establishments include such things as MRIs, open MRIs, mammographies, and EKGs.

From left, AnnMarie Courtney, Donna Matassini, Sylvia Lufriu and Katrina Holsonback, with the Hillsborough County School District's Aparicio-Levy Technical Center , for adults with a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Courtney is the school's principal. The school offers career training to become, among other things, an: A+ Certifications / PC repair technician, biomedical technician, CISCO Computer Network Administrator, customer service specialist, home technology integration technician, IT support technician, manufacturing technology specialist, media production specialist, medical administrative technologist, moblie electronics installer and phlebotomy technician. The school also offers other opportunities, such as a Computer Essential Course for individuals with little or no experiences using computers. The two-month course meets once a week, day or night, to provide instruction in such things as Internet Explorer, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher. The cost is $100.

Day and evening classes also are offered to help a student earn a "Florida Ready to Work" credential, testifying that the recipient is "Work Habits Certified."

Jamie Golden, a paramedical esthetician with the Caban Skin Institute, addresses the needs of an attendee at the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce Health Fair 2009. Golden gave the health fair high marks. "We're meeting a lot of people," she said. "That will bring a lot more people into the office."
