"It feels good, really good," said Brandon High student Travis Sherwood in the moments backstage leading up to his 2010 graduation at the Florida Fairgrounds Expo Hall on June 9. As for the big hug his sister, Chanille Paytan, is giving him, Sherwood added: "It makes me feel good. She's proud of me, I made it."

Brandon High graduate Travis Sherwood receives some last-minute adjustments from his sister's husband, Edmund Paytan, who told Sherwood that he would holler out when his nephew's name was called to receive his diploma. "I'm going to be loud," Paytan said. "I've been practicing."

"It feels good," said Tommy Garner, with his Brandon High graduating daughter, Brandi Lassiter. "A little sad and a little good."

"Too many times," he said, when asked if he had thoughts about his daughter as a younger girl as he watched her put on her graduation robe and line up backstage for the procession. "I'm proud of her. Very proud of her."

"This is the last one," said Catherine Whittington, as she hugs her daughter Crystal Ignatowski in the minutes leading up to her Brandon High graduation. "She's the youngest out of five."

At the head of the class, Class Salutatorian Stefanie Grewe, left, and Valedictorian Somer Harvey. The Durant High graduates had the highest reported grade-point average in the Hillsborough County Public School District, with a 7.8276. Grewe's 7.64 GPA was the district's third-highest.
