Patrick Brown, as Mr. Bones, brings his form of magic to Center Place, for the annual Chalk Walk event. Mr. Bones entertained the artists with chalk, young and old, as the decorated the sidewalk on Parsons Avenue in Brandon, across from the lake outside the civic and cultural center.

Armwood High School and Center Place art teacher Greg Manley, next to his two Chalk Walk contributions. This is the first year Manley, a long-time Center Place arts instructor, has also been a member of the Center Place Board of Directors. "An invitation and a twist of the arm," is what led him to accept the position, he said good-naturedly. Center Place, he added, "is Brandon's best-kept secret."

"I love being a part of my community and I like that it's linked to art," Manley said about his motivation to support Center Place. "It's a little bit of Americana tat we don't have anymore." In further explanation, he said, "Americana" in the sense of "a community, family oriented public space open to the public and focused on the arts." Added Manley: "It's really awesome to be a part of that."

"Oh, I love Center Place. I have always done things here," said Center Place board member Chris Kazor, left, with past president Susan Saunders, entertainer and magician Mr. Bones (Patrick Brown) and newly appointed president Tammy Holmberg.

Even without kids, Kazor said, she has found a home at Center Place. "My husband and I learned how to dance here and I've taken Photoshop classes," Kazor said. "At Center Place, there's something for everyone. If you want to get your kids into art, if you want to get into art, this is where you need to go."

Tammy Holmberg, this year's Center Place president, also is the propreitor of the Chick-fil-A at Lake Brandon Village in Brandon. Each chidl attending the March 14, 2009 "Chalk Walk" at Center Place received a Chick-fil-A meal. Holmberg also serves as the Honorary Mayor of Brandon, until her term expires the morning of the Brandon Fourth of July Parade, which is run annually by the Community Roundtable, formerly known as the President's Roundtable.
