"If you can stand him, he's a sweet guy," said Shirley Tilton, about her son, honorary mayoral candidate Rob Silver. "He's always been like this, wanting to do things for others, very charity oriented. He can get hyper and all that stuff, but it takes someone like him to do something like this."

Rob Silver, with his mom, Shirley Tilton, said he decided to run for mayor as an extension of his ongoing work with and for charities over the years. "It's another way for me to give back to the community," he said. "What else is there to do? Sit home and watch television?"

Silver is sporting a headpiece he received after shooting a segment for the Daytime show hosted by Cyndi Edwards and Dave Nemeth. He bid for the taping in a silent auction at the American Cancer Society's fundraising gala in May. The segment will air on Father's Day.

Silver said he is hoping to raise a lot of money for charity in these troubling times. "If 1,000 people in Brandon gave $5 that could make a huge difference," he said.

"I love my candidate," said Anne Nymark, left, with Rob Silver and Liz Brewer. Nymark's Greater Brandon Community Foundation is Silver's sponsor and as such will earn 10 percent of the money he raises in his June campaign. The campaign is comprised of fundraisers to support charity. In addition to the foundation, Silver is running to support the Haley House and the Brandon Outreach Clinic.

"This man is the most community minded individual I know," Nymark said. "He's so giving and he does everything for the right reasons."

The hospital specializes in spinal cord, traumatic brain, and blast-injury treatment programs. For those living more than 50 miles from the hospital, and qualifying for aid based on income limits, the Haley House Fund houses the families of injured veterans as they undergo treatment for massive and multiple traumas.

The Haley House is one of the charities to benefit from Silver's campaign for honorary mayor.

"He's got great heart to do this and his wife and him have been working overtime," Lori Abbett said about Rob Silver and his wife, Sharon. As for her work at the Haley House, Lori Abbett added: "It's terrible, all the returning soldiers and their traumatic injuries."

"When we first started volunteering I couldn't talk to the guys, they [represented to me] the guys next to me [in war] who died," Gerard Abbett said. "They were my friends who didn't make it home. These guys have that second chance."

Mary Ellen Harlan, of the Haley House Fund, thanks fundraiser attendee Jake Piascik, owner of Dream Limousine, for donating back the money he won in the 50/50 raffle at the June 12 fundraiser for Rob Silver. Silver is raising money for the Haley House in his bid for honorary mayor of Brandon. Piascik ran for mayor in 2008 and placed an honorable second to Tammy Holmberg.

Rich Strehl, pictured with his daughter, Cheyenne (a/k/a "P.G.", for "Pretty Girl"), is co-chair of the Greater Brandon Community Foundation's Foundation Angel program. The program was established to help families and individuals get through a "castastrophic event" in their lives, as with the diagnosis of a life-threatening disease. Strehl co-chairs the program with Tara Hewitt.

"My wife and I do what we do in this community because of our faith," Strehl said. "We do it for these kids and for everybody else's kids, so they can call this place home if they choose and to be as excited about it as we are."
