Maren Julian-Fernandez received two awards at the First Annual StageDoor Awards ceremony held Jan. 29, 2009 at the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association in Brandon, Fla. For Best Actress in a Major Supporting Role, Julian-Fernandez was recognized for her role as Ado Annie in Oklahoma. As the witch in Into the Woods, Julian-Fernandez received the Best Actress nod.

Wayne Otto, founder of StageDoor, receives a standing ovation at the First Annual StageDoor Awards ceremony, Jan. 29, 2009, at Center Place. Otto, a longtime Brandon resident, recently moved to Maine. He was presented the Hall of Fame Award.

Wayne Otto gives a tear-laden, heart-felt thank you to the members and friends of the community theater troupe he founded with his wife, Lynne Otto, and others. Otto for years kept the troupe alive, with a focus on productions that featured kids. He also made it a point for StageDoor to participate each year in the Brandon Fourth of July parade.

Doni Holmes said she made "the right decision" in attending the First Annual StageDoor Awards ceremony Jan. 29, 2009. She had a prior engagement, but it was her involvement with StageDoor, from its very beginnings, that lured her to the ceremony, at which she received the "Friend of the Theater Award." She noted that despite the absence of StageDoor founder Wayne Otto, who recently moved out of state, "we are together as a very, very strong group, and it was looking a little shaky" there for a bit. Holmes was recognized for both her work with the group from its beginnings, to stepping in when the transition was taking place last year.

James Faurote, for his role as Jack in Into the Woods, received Best Actor in a Major Supporting Role honors. He also received Best Set Design for the same production, an honor he shared with his brother, Ryne. Faurote also was nominated for Best Director for "The Important of Being Earnest," a show that featured, among others, his brother, Ryne, and father, Rick.

Peter B. Sanders, as Curly in Oklahoma! took home the award for Best Actor. His father, Guy Sanders, received, for the same show, the award for Best Musical Direction. Gina Giordano, who played Gertie Cummings in the show, was recognized as Best Actress in a Minor Supporting Role.
