Udale Moore said every week he gives his wife fresh flowers and that for the week of the 2010 Brandon Idol contest he wanted to give her those flowers from the Brandon Elks Lodge stage.
The April 24 competition was a special day for Udale Moore and his wife, Wendy, who reacted with surprise and delight. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1998, three years after giving birth to the Moore's second of two children, Kyle, 15. Their first child, Kevin, 19, was born when the two were teenagers; she a student at Bloomingdale High and he a recent graduate of Brandon High. The Brandon Idol contest marked the first time in eight years Wendy Moore was well enough to leave their home to see her husband perform on stage.
Udale Moore said he religiously gives his wife flowers because "she takes care of me and I love her very much." Moore acknowledged that people will ask him, "How can she take care of you, she can't even move?" But, Moore answered, "she smiles at me and she tells me that she loves me and she's always taking my mind off of bad things."
"She keeps me sane by the things she does," added Moore, who noted that even when his wife was on life support in 2008, she would squeeze his hand and acknowledge her love for him. "So many ups and downs and obstacles and she makes it all really worthwhile."
