Frenkel's production uses alternative versions of material to make the show "for all ages and family friendly," she said. Nevertheless, the concept remains strong. "Just the idea of a spelling bee playing on how kids get so wrapped up in things," Frenkel said. "And their personalities are so unique, just as they are for [the adults in the show as well]."
Frenkel, a professional actor and acting coach, is the founder of Take 2 The Stage, a dramatic production company set to provide high level training and paid acting positions to local youth "ready to take the next step." With music and lyrics by William Finn and book by Rachel Sheinkin, the Tony award-winning show centers around a fictional spelling bee held at the fictional Putnam Valley Middle School, where six quirky teens compete in the contest run by three equally offbeat adults. The FAOPA is in residence at Music Showcase in Brandon, where the production will be staged.
