Nativity Catholic School students penned their signatures on the concrete slabs of the upcoming Monsigno Lara Parish Youth Center and Sister Irene St. Jean Gymnasium under construction on school and church grounds in Brandon, Fla.
The 22,000 - square-foot structure is scheduled to open in December 2010. The opening will coincide with Nativity's 50th anniversary "Golden Jubilee" celebration in recognition of the school's 1961 grand opening.
Nativity Catholic Church is a bit older, but both the parish and school will be celebrated in planned jubilee events.
The students were invited to sign the $2 million structure during a schoolwide assembly in the facility on Sept. 3, 2010. Nativity pastor, the Rev. Arthur Proulx, and the school's principal, Bernadette Kunnen, spearheaded the festivities, which included also parents, builders, and other leading school and church figures.
