Hillsborough Schools Superintendent MaryEllen Elia issued the following statement:
I am personally shocked and saddened at the news of Phyllis Busansky’s death. She has been a great supporter of our schools. One of the first things she did after taking office was to personally visit several of our high school classrooms to encourage students to vote and become civically involved. She had made a commitment to work with students on several projects to promote voter education. Phyllis Busansky has been a great public servant and this community will miss her.
Below is a statement from Carol Kurdell, chair of the Hillsborough County School Board, speaking on behalf of the School Board regarding the death of Elections Supervisor Phyllis Busansky:
Phyllis Busansky has been a tremendous asset to this community for many years. She has been doing a great job in the elections office and was working closely with our school district on several important projects. We're all shocked to hear this news. Our hearts go out to the Busansky family.
