Long-time community residents and leaders were saddened to hear of the June 16, 2009 death of Brandon Key Citizen and
Alice B. Tompkins Community Award recipient William W. "Bill" Wolfe, shown above at the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce's annual dinner in 2008.
"He has been a force in this community for a lot of years and he's done it quietly," said B. Lee Elam, president of the Roundtable Charities of Greater Brandon Inc., more commonly known as the President's Roundtable and more recently the Community Roundtable. "Bill never looked for a lot of fanfare," Elam added, "but it's obvious how much he's contributed to the Brandon community."
D'Ann White, who for more than 20 years worked as the editor of
The Brandon News, said she had many associations with Wolfe, a man she described as "sweet, kind, gentle, loving, gracious." He was, she added, "a gentleman's gentleman."
"He was there with the Brandon Outreach Clinic from the beginning, helping to set up the clinic, which serves people who don't make enough money to afford health insurance but make too much money to qualify for government aid," White said. "He was one of the clinic's biggest supporters. He showed up every week, even when he got sick. He was the kind of person who would give until he couldn't give anymore."
Memorial services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 20, 2009, at
Southern Funeral Care, 10510 Riverview Drive, Riverview, FL, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brandon Outreach Clinic, 517 N Parsons Ave., Brandon, FL 33510, (813) 654-1388 or LifePath Hospice, 12973 Telecom Parkway, Suite 100, Temple Terrace, FL 33637.
