"It's like trying to bring to life an American icon," cast member Tyler Hollis (Burt) said about the Plant City Entertainment decision to stage It's A Wonderful Life at the Cornerstone Community Center in historic downtown Plant City, at 315 North Collins Street. "We know it's a Christmas classic so we're doing it right at the right time," Hollis added. "It's an opportunity to kick-off the holidays right." Show dates are Nov. 14-15 and 21-22. Curtain time is 8 p.m. The show is directed by April Griffin.

"This show reminds us that no man is an island," said Kay Secord, who plays George Bailey's mother in the Plant City Entertainment 2008 production of It's A Wonderful Life. So many times in life, she added, troubles "can get so in your face that you lose sight of those things that are always in your peripheral, family, friends and church." Banks failing and families struggling through tough times and war are issues that today are eerily topical, "way too close for comfort," Secord added, so it's important, she added, that the message of coming together as a community to face "serious problems, adn focus on them seriously," is especially poignant.

The two said they were heartened to be a part of an American classic, especially in these trying times.

"We have really lost that sense of community, pitching in and helping each other, and caring about your neighbor," Secord said. "This show certainly reinforces the value of that and I'm hoping with the election over we can get back to solving our problems as a community."

Roney, too, talked about the community spirit. As a country, she said, we need to stop looking at issues as "your problems or my problems." In effect, she said, they're "our problems."
