Jennifer Jackson, as Louella Parsons, in the
Plant City Entertainment production of Ken Ludwig's
Shakespeare in Hollywood, notes that this is the community troupe's 29th season. The show is on stage May 1-2 and 8-9 at the Cornerstone Community Center, 315 Collins Street, Plant City.
"Next year will be our 30th season and I've been here my whole life," Jackson said. "I was 19 the year the troupe started and I've been here ever since." Why the long-time commitment? "It's because of the people who are involved and that we keep getting new people all the time," she said. "Different directors, different shows, and lots of opportunities for people to join the cast." Jackson herself last directed for PCE the musical
Brigadoon and noted that "everybody who auditioned got cast and we had a great time."
As for the current PCE production, Jackson said it, too, "is a lot of fun and it's from Broadway playwright Ken Ludwig, who also wrote
Lend Me A Tenor and
Crazy For You." The PCE production represents Courtney Kyle's directorial debut, "and she is doing a great job," Jackson said.
Jackson gave credit to community theater troupes throughout Hillsborough's East End, including the
Village Players and
StageDoor Performing Arts Inc.. "From soup to nuts, we're all volunteers," she said. "For me, it's my extra curricular but it has become so much more."
