Plant City Entertainment returns to the stage with
Harvey, the story of a mild-mannered, quite pleasant and unassuming man (Elwood P. Dowd) who just happens to have (he says) an imagainary friend in the form of a 6-foot rabbit named Harvey. According to a 1945
New York Times report,
Harvey, the play by Mary Chase, won the Pulitzer Prize for drama for the 1944-45 season. The award was "for an original American play, performed in New York, which shall represent in marked fashion the educational value and power of the stage, preferably dealing with American life." The play was produced by Brock Pemberton.
Produced under special arrangement with Dramatist Play Service Inc., the
Plant City Entertainment production is directed by Tyler and Angela Hollis.
Harvey is the third production in "The New Home of Plant City Entertainment," at 101 N. Thomas Street in Plant City, Fla. The theater is across the street from the First Presbyterian Church, at 404 W. Reynolds Street, and behind the old post office in downtown Plant City.
Show dates are May 7-8 and 14-15 at 8 p.m. There also is a matinee on May 16 at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for general admission and $8 for seniors ages 55 and up and for students through grade 12.
