Roz Creager, right, owner of the Green Boutique and the Plaza Bella shopping center, with cancer survivor Doris Sidoti, honorary board member of the American Cancer Society. The two said they were heartened to see some 200 people turn out for the "First Annual Plaza Bella Goes Pink" walk in support of the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. The event was held Oct. 25, 2008.
"This really means a lot to me," Creager said. "Personally, I've not been a victim of cancer but family, friends and so many people I've met throughout the years have been. It just means a lot to support the cause for finding a cure."
Creager noted, too, that Heidi Floyd, from the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer, spoke at the Plaza Bella Goes Pink event. Floyd was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was four months pregnant and despite medical advice to terminate the pregnancy, she went through with it and gave birth to her son. Floyd, who worked for Vera Bradley, was supported by her company throughout the ordeal, Creager said. They helped her with finding medical care and held her hand through treatments and even brough coolers of food for her husband and family when they visited.
