The Las Vegas themed awards ceremony highlighted the 2010 membership dinner hosted by the
Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce. This year's attendance almost doubled last year's numbers, which bodes well for a chamber that worked hard to sustain itself in very trying economic times. More than 230 guests attended the Jan. 26 dinner at the
Hilton Garden Inn Tampa Southeast, at 4328 Garden Vista Drive in Riverview.
The chamber board back in March 2009 "wasn't even sure we'd be here," said chamber president Jill Andrew, right. "And here we are, less than a year later with more than 230 people at our annual dinner." Moreover, she said, the chamber ended the year "in the black" with $424.16.
Andrew stressed the chamber's purpose, to "serve to create a family environment," in asking the dinner gathering: "How many people in here right now have gotten at least one hug from me?" Hands shot up as Andrew continued: "There goes Jill and her confetti again! That's my purpose in life." [Andrew is known for shooting off confetti as good news is mentioned, which she did throughout the awards ceremony.]
