The Second Annual Festival of the Arts at Winthrop, also known as the Winthrop Arts Festival, returns with a juried competition, cash awards, and a first-time focus on jazz music, with Eric Darius and Belinda Womack. The Rotary Club of Brandon '86 sponsored the event as a fundraiser for the charities it supports.
Through his company, Costin Graphics Inc., visual artist John Costin specializes in original etchings and watercolors. Every piece unique, hand- drawn and-painted, John Costin's work at the Winthrop Art Festival earned him the top prize, Best of Show, and a check for $3,000.
The Winthrop Art Festival, also known as the Festival of the Arts at Winthrop, hosted by the Rotary Club of Brandon '86 as a fundraiser for the various charities it supports, also featured jazz concerts by Belinda Womack and jazz saxophonist Eric Darius.
It takes three months to prepare the five copper plates that Costin uses to make his prints and each print takes eight hours to produce, he said. This highly specialized art takes special equipment to produce. As Costin put it: "You never see etchings this size with this much detail. It's very rare.
