Trixie, an Italian Greyhound, won Best in Show at the 2010 St. Puppy's Day Parade at O'Brien's Irish Pub in Brandon, Fla. The day's events featured the Tampa Bay Pipes & Drums band as well as the McGinley Academy of Irish Dance. The day also heralded the causes of such groups as Paws With A Cause, Dogma Pet Rescue, and AMVETS Post 44.

The Tampa Bay Pipes & Drums band performed at the 2010 St. Puppy's Day Parade at O'Brien's Irish Pub in Brandon. The band performed at the March 14, 2010 event, as well as the day before, for the annual St. Patrick's Day Biker Bash and military tribute.

Hickrey, a Golden Retriever, with Judi Volpe, is a service dog with Paws With A Cause. The organization "trains assistance dogs nationally for people with disabilities and provides lifetime team support, which encourages independence."

"We train dogs for people who have physical and hearing impairments," Volpe said. "Also, for seizure response." The dogs, for example, can push a button that calls for help, bring to the stricken individual a telephone, and pick up items that have been dropped, such as keys and glasses.

"I've done this work for about 15 years," Volpe said. "I've always trained dogs and I thought this was a great organization. It's a really rewarding job, that's for sure." What's the best part about the job? "Saving lives," Volpe said.

Annie, a 15-month-old West Highland White Terrier, dressed in a kilt representative of Scotland. "She came last year [to the St. Puppy's Day Parade] when she was only three months old and we had a good time," said Annie's owner, Susan Arnold.

Why did she and her husband open a kenel for dogs? "That's the million-dollar question," Darga said. And here's the answer: "Ours is a passion for dogs and the desire to have our own thing and get out of corporate America."

The couple found Camp Bow Wow, a franchise, "by accident," Darga said. "I was looking at a listing of dentists on a radio station's web site and I saw Scout [the Camp Bow Wow mascot] and we haven't stopped since."

"It's been an even greater passion since," Darga added. "We love the dogs. We love our customers, the human and the canine kind."

As for {Priscilla] Guitron, she said: "I am the [human] scout. I do the marketing."

Tsunami, a seven-month-old American Pit Bull Terrier, at the 2010 St. Puppy's Day Parade. Tsunami, owned by Penny Muscato, won the award for Most Entertaining.

In her work as an emcee and deejay, Parti Patti, with her dog, Jaz, said her job is a living, but also a way to give back to the community. "If I can do it for charity it makes my job that much better," she said. "It makes it more worthwhile."
