Interior decorator Alisa Henry, left, and jewelry designer Susanna Collins of Javan Exclusives, teamed together to present the Nov. 22-23
Beauty & Bling Designing Green Showcase charity shopping event at the Barn Theatre at Winthrop in Riverview, Fla. The event aimed to raise awareness, and some funds, for charities focused on children. The main focus was
A Kid's Place , under construction at 1715 Lithia Pinecrest Road in Brandon. The $5-million emergency assessment shelter for children removed from their homes due to crisis is a project of
Kids Charity of Tampa Bay. It will feature five homes, each approximatley 3,200 square feet and designed for 12 children, on a wooded 5-acre lot. The administrative building will feature not only office space for all service providers, but also classrooms, clinics and a playground. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office will be able to deliver children to the shelter 24 hours a day. Called "a safe haven," the "shelter will be a warm, safe and loving place because we, the community, will have designed it that way," according to informational materials published by Kids Charity of Tampa Bay. "This shelter will relieve some of the burden on an already taxed system of child welfare. It will prevent our communities' children from being moved through numerous foster homes and keep sibling groups together. It will also provide investigators a solution to searching for a safe bed during a highly traumatic period in these children's lives."
