The Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce each year holds a safe and fun Halloween treat for area families. The 2008 Trick Or Treat Street was held at Riverview High School.

"It blows my mind every year," said chamber president Kitty Cunningham, right, with, from left, Charles Crump and Sheri and Johnny Walker. "We had a business call one time and said 'We called to ask how many kids to prepare for and we were told five to 6,000. We just wanted to know if that was a real number,' " Cunningham recalled. "Yes, it's a real number," she added, pointing to the crowd Oct. 25, 2008 at Riverview High School. "And you can tell."

"This is what Riverview, the community of Riverview, is all about," said Robert "Bob" Heilmann, principal of Riverview High School, with Sandra Murman, at the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce's 2008 Trick or Treat Street, held at Riverview High, Oct. 25, 2008. "The school, the businesses, the people."

"It gets bigger every single year," said Sandra Murman, of the annual safe Halloween event, organized by the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce. Each year, thousands of kids, students and parents attend the event that features treats and amusements from area businesses. "First off, there's the safety issues," Murman said about the event's draw. "And now, with the economy being bad, I think parents don't have enough to give their kids and so they bring them here to have a good time." Riverview, she added, represents "the heart and soul of working families. You want to find out what's going on in the world you come out here and talk to people."

"I've been at the school [Riverview High] since it opened," O'Regan said. "I adore my school. It's the best place on the planet other than the beach."

What makes the school so special?

"The principal," O'Regan said. "The teachers are my friends and the students are the best. I know it sounds trite . . . but you've got a little piece of heaven right here in Riverview."

Riverview High School guidance counselor Louise Ferndandez with her godson, Ethan Sills, and Ethan's parents, Marie Rimoldi Sills, a 2000 graduate of Riverview, and Corey Sills, who graduated from the school in 2002. Fernandez said she was guidance counselor to both of Ethan's parents.

As for Trick or Treat Street, "it's wonderful, absolutely a great way for kids to have safe fun [for Halloween]," Fernandez said. "We are like a big family [at Riverview High]," she added. "It starts with the principal [Bob Heilmann] and trickles down to the teachers and the kids."`

Placing second in the costume contest for ages 8 to 11 are Connor and Samuel Wirth, who collectivelyl entered as the "Blue Man Group."
