The Prophet, a play set in a New York City bar in the 1970's, is simple: "I really liked the book," he said, in reference to the 1923 classic of poetic essays written by Kahlil Gibran, and also entitled,
The Prophet. "I wanted to find a vehicle to put some quotes from the book on stage," Abbott said.
A songwriter as well, Abbott wrote tunes for the raw musical, which is intended for mature audiences; no children permitted. "It's more adult and more darker" than other standard community theater fare, Abbott said.
The cast, he added, which met his strong expectations, includes two lead singers. "I wanted two very strong singers and I got two of the best," Abbott said, in reference to April Smith Golombek and Maren Julian Fernandez.
