Winthrop's Greek Revival Times Building Draws Two Chambers To Ribbon-Cutting
By LINDA CHION KENNEY (Posted March 29, 2008): A ribbon-cutting for the expansion and relocation of the Brandon and South Shore Times editions of the St. Peterburg Times was held March 20, 2008 at The Times Building at Winthrop. The building also houses the Beaux Arts Gallery at Winthrop.
The Times Building is built in the spirit of Greek Revival architecture, which was very popular in America in the mid- to-late 1880s, especially for civic buildings. It is reminiscent of the ancient temples of Greece, the birthplace of democracy. The Times Building reflects the vision of Winthrop town founders John and Kay Sullivan. The architect was Marty Mullin, founder and president of Mullin Architects.
