For the 14th Yappy Hour at Happy Paws & Tails, in the Winthrop Town Centre in Riverview, at the southeast corner of Bloomingdale Avenue and Providence Road, the focus Nov. 29 was on the adoption of great pyrenees, also known as "the mountain dog." Shannon Cloversettle, who with her husband,Jim, owns trooper and lives and works at Winthrop, said the monthly Yappy Hour is the couple's way of giving back. "It's our way of giving back to the community and to help raise money for all the rescue groups we have," she said. "We wanted to raise awareness that their are dogs available for adoption."
George, left, and Kanada with their owners Julie and Robert Peterson. "We adopted George from a pound in New Mexico," Julie said. "We took a road trip out to New Mexico and decided to live there for a year, which is where we got engaged. We adopted George's mother, who was a full-breed German shephed. She was a wild dog when we got her and very malnourished. We adopted her and two weeks later her belly blew up. We thought, 'Wow, she was hungry!' Then, a week after that her belly still didn't go down and we discovered we had adopted nine dogs instead of one. George was the only one who didn't look like a full-breed German shepherd. He's the mailman's kid!"
